As Vancouver City Council continues to hear from the public about rezoning Kitsilano's Arbutus and West 8th area, Gloria Macarenko interviewed Dr. Julian Somers, a clinical psychologist and an SFU professor.
Please pay attention to one of Dr. Somer's closing remarks:
"Where we've been held up is by Governments' unwillingness to shift from the model [of congregate supportive housing] that is demonstrably, not only less effective for the people we aim to serve, it reflects profound stigma because we are saying that for these people, exiting homelessness, mentally ill, struggling with addictions, this form of housing should be good enough when we ourselves would not choose that."
